This post will chronicle me before ketamine vs me after. It’s going to be a rough start!
My Day Before Ketamine Treatments
I would start my day with my mom waking me up. I wasn’t able to function or work so I moved back in with my parents. My mom, being the saint that she was during this time, would make me a smoothie every morning and give my antidepressant pill that didn’t seem to be doing anything.
After, I’d feel the existential dread coming on and go back to sleep. I would cry the second time I woke up around 11 or 12 pm.
When being alone was too much I would head downstairs with my blanket around me. I’d plop down on the couch, feeling somehow worse than the day before.
I wasn’t able to feed myself and had a hard time eating anything. For some reason, in my major depression, I wasn’t able to eat any savory food. When I was able to get out of my bed and come downstairs, my mom would have to prepare food, hand it to me and encourage me to eat it. It was always either yogurt, fruit or granola, as it was the only thing I could make myself eat.
I’d cry again and say I didn’t feel good and she’d turn on a movie. I would summon the almost nonexistent motivation to do anything and grab my knitting needle and my vape. As unhealthy as it is, I had started to vaping to feel some kind of comfort, despite being very into natural and holistic health before getting extremely depressed.
The only movies I could stomach and my mother and I could agree on were cheesy Hallmark movies. The romance would sometimes make me cry, because I felt that I could never be loveable the way I was. I felt worthless. I could barely brush my teeth, let alone be a productive member of society and be pleasant to be around.
I’d have to keep movies on all day and would pray for the end of the day where I could go to sleep. I had been given a sleeping medication, which I desperately needed to turn of my negative thoughts off at night, if only by sleeping.

My Day After Ketamine Treatments
My life before ketamine vs after is night and day.
I wake up earlier than my alarm and get out of bed, make my bed and get ready for the day. I work from home and have found that getting dressed and ready increases my productivity.
I go downstairs to make a cup of hot water and lemon water and start a cup of organic tea or coffee. I’ll make a healthy breakfast and head upstairs to work.
Even though I have an office set up, I often work from bed so I can watch movies a few days a week. Not great, I know, but it helps me focus on staying on the computer so I figure, why not? The difference is I enjoy the movies and they aren’t an escape, but something I look forward to.
On my breaks, I’ll walk my dog, clean up a bit, do laundry and catch up texting with friends.
I feel motivated in my career, my life and my social life. I want to keep doing better and I am ! I have hope for the future, and I am so grateful everyday that I am so far from where I’ve been.
Ketamine literally saved my life, because I have one now! Again, I am grateful everyday for my life is before ketamine vs after.
